Recycling Resumes in NYC After Hurricane Sandy!

Maspeth, NY 718-416-1656

New York City has at last resumed recycling, two weeks after super storm Sandy. New York City’s Sanitation Department has resumed picking up paper, cardboard, metals, plastics and glass for recycling day.

All collecting was put on hold after Hurricane Sandy so NYC had time to repair some recycling centers and so that sanitation workers could help pick up storm debris around the city. The city picked up recycling from areas in which would've been collected on Saturday, on Sunday. Also, regularly scheduled recycling pickup took place yesterday as well.

A Message From Boro Wide Recycling

Maspeth, NY 718-416-1656

First, let me say my thoughts and prayers are with all of you and your families at this time. I am grateful that my family has come through this unharmed. I wanted to reach out to all of you to say thank you for all your hard work during this time. I know that all of us have been affected by this disaster and I commend you for all that you are doing for not only our company but for our community as well. Many of you have seen things that I can’t imagine we would ever see in our lifetime. My heart goes out to all of our neighbors that have been affected by this hurricane. With this in mind, some of us in the office were wondering how we could in our small way help those affected by this disaster. I went onto the website,www.nyc.gov, to find out how we could help. I found a Hurricane Relief fund that we could donate, and 100% of the proceeds are dispersed to relief efforts and organizations. I have attached a page from the website that gives some details about this fund. I am going to leave a box in our office for anybody that may be interested in giving a donation. Of course, you can donate anonymously and any amount of donation is appreciated. I will be making the donation in care of the staff of Boro-Wide Recycling. Our bosses have kindly agreed to match all donations made. Thank you in advance for your donations.

Anyway, we have asked our employees to help donate to the hurricane relief and they are coming in with donations. Boro-Wide will also match the employee donations.  I would like to say something about what Boro-Wide is trying to do. Maybe you can write a short blurb about it.  I’m not looking for other people to donate, I just want them to know what we are doing. You could put something about the Hurricane Relief fund and that they could find information about it on www.nyc.gov.

Thanks

Fatima Cristina

Tension Growing at Gas Stations After Sandy

Maspeth, NY 718-416-1656

The aftermath of Hurricane Sandy has left many people on the East Coast without homes, heat, food and gas. Tension and lines at gas stations have been high since last week when Hurricane Sandy left many stations in the East without power.

Although FEMA has delivered fuel to stations in New York and New Jersey, tensions are still high and the gas crisis has only gotten worse. Not only do people need gas for their cars, many are in need of fuel for their generators. Many people are waiting on lines for hours in hopes to fill up their tanks. A motorist from Bay Ridge reported waiting on a 16 hour line!

FEMA brought 8 million gallons of gas with them over this past weekend and are sending another 28 million gallons. However, it will take a few days for the lines to die down. Governor Cuomo is urging motorists to keep their cars at home as much as possible!

How long have you waited in line for gas? Let us know on our Facebook page, linked HERE

Mayor Bloomberg Will Not Call Off NYC Marathon

Maspeth, NY 718-416-1656

Many people are speaking out about whether or not the New York City Marathon should be run this coming weekend. Mayor Michael Bloomberg canceled the home opener for the Nets-Knicks at the Barclays Center last night but says the marathon must be run.

Many runners who had planned on running the marathon either cannot get here to run it or simply are refusing to because they don’t agree with the Mayors decision. Many also believe the conditions aren't safe or sanitary.

What do you think about the NYC marathon being held? Do you think the race should be run? Let us know on our Facebook page, LINKED HERE
