There is a new shining star in Lincoln Nebraska and
researchers are saying it’s the first of its kind! The traffic light at the
corner of Highway 2 looks like any other until you begin hearing a wind turbine whirring and see a solar panel soaking up the sun!
Traffic signals are being run by a renewable power source,
so no more power is needed from the power grid and therefore reduces the
traffic operation cost. Lincoln spends $72,000 each year on supplying power to
traffic lights. By implementing this “green” stoplight unit, this cost can now
be cut down!
