Environmentalists
are trying to get Governor Quinn to veto a bill that would require plastic bag manufacturers to set up collection and recycle programs or ban them all
together.
The new
proposal would require plastic bag manufacturers to set up a recycling program
that would aim to increase the recycling rate by 12% 2015. It would also aim to
eventually make plastic bags from at least 30% of recycled content.
Many plastic
bag manufacturers and the Illinois Retail Merchants Association support the
bill, but others think it won’t accomplish anything.
What are
your thoughts on the bill? Do you think it would help? Let us know on our
