Thanksgiving is just one week away and with only one weekend left to put the final touches on holiday plans, parents may be looking for a way to keep their children busy in the meantime. Since Thanksgiving is all about giving thanks, we suggest keeping children occupied with some arts and crafts activities that encourage them to show their thankful side while you continue to plan and prepare for all of next week's festivities. If you're looking for some ideas, check out the following Thanksgiving activities - they're even eco friendly!

Gratitude Box:
Using an old cereal box, granola bar box or other empty cardboard container, children can create a gratitude box where they keep a list of all the things they are grateful for. For this activity, seal shut all open sides of the box, then cut a slit in the top just wide enough to slip in a piece of paper. Once this has been done, have children decorate the box however they'd like, then have them write down what they're grateful for!

Holiday Placemats:
For this activity, provide children with a blank piece of paper or card-stock and have them decorate it with their favorite holiday images and sayings. After it is complete, have the page laminated if possible to add a little shine and security to their design so that it is not tarnished during your Thanksgiving feast - or next year's!

Thanksgiving Garland:
Garland doesn't just have to be for Christmas! For this activity, have children start by tracing their hand and making a few hand traced turkeys. Once they are all decorated and cut out, glue them to an old string or piece of fabric to create one long chain. What a perfect decoration to hang over your dining room door this Thanksgiving!
