Memorial Day Events In New York City

In our last blog, we covered some barbecue basics to inform our readers about how they can celebrate this Memorial Day weekend eco-friendly style in their own backyard. Today, we're taking it one step further by offering a list of weekend events taking place around New York City so that our readers can keep busy during their much anticipated time off!

Thanks to TimeOut New York and the International Business Times, we compiled the following list of holiday happenings:

Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade:
When: May 25, 2015
Where: Brooklyn
What: Kicking off at 11 AM on third avenue and 87th street in Bay Ridge, this year's parade marks its 148th anniversary! Join other community members as they salute the fallen soldiers and their families in one of Brooklyn's oldest parades.

Fleet Week:
When: Now through Tuesday, May 26, 2015
Where: Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum
What: Visit the Intrepid to learn more about our servicemen out at sea! Guests will enjoy live demonstrations and a variety of events pertaining to the work our Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen do each and every day.

Memorial Day Concert:
When: May 25, 2015
Where: Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine
What: Listen to the New York Philharmonic perform their annual Memorial Day concert! The best part is, tickets are free! But be sure to act soon to ensure that your seat is saved.

Memorial Day At Prospect Park:
When: May 25, 2015
Where: Prospect Park
What: Celebrate Memorial Day with the whole family at one of Prospect Park's outdoor events! From nature walks to animal encounters, a carousel ride and more, there will be something for individuals of all ages to enjoy!

Little Neck Douglaston Memorial Day Parade:
When: May 25, 2015
Where: Queens
What: Come down and watch what is considered one of the weekend's largest parades! The event is scheduled to begin at 2 PM and will start off along Northern Boulevard.

And don't forget about New York City's beaches! Most are set to open this Saturday, and so far the weather looks promising!

If you have still yet to finalize your Memorial Day weekend plans, we hope you'll consider one of the above - they're all sure to be a blast!
