With schools closed for spring break, parents might find themselves scrounging for ideas of what to do with their kids. Fortunately, this time of year permits outdoor activities in addition to staying indoors, giving parents and their children the opportunity to get out of the house and breathe a breath of fresh air. The following activities are fun, eco-friendly ways to keep your children busy this spring break:

Picnic: On a nice day, plan a picnic for your family. If you don't have a park nearby, don't forget that you can always picnic in your own backyard!

Plant: Since April showers bring May flowers, spring break is a great time to begin working on your garden. Take a trip to your local nursery to pick out your family's favorite plants, and then work together to plant them in your garden.

Visit a Nature Walk: Take the family to your nearest nature walk and experience the great outdoors. Not only is this a great way to get outside, but it also allows you and your children to learn about the environment you live in.

Head to the Library: If this week's weather keeps you indoors, head to the library to find new books. In honor of Earth Month and Earth Day approaching (April 22nd), check out some books on recycling or ways to go green in your home.

Recycled St. Patrick's Day Crafts for Kids

This weekend is sure to be a green one with tons of St. Patrick's day parades, parties, and feasts taking place. How do you plan on celebrating? If you're looking for ways to get the family into the holiday spirit, here are some eco-friendly St. Patrick's Day crafts for kids that can help you celebrate while recycling household items in a creative way:

St. Patrick's Day Leprechaun: 
This lucky leprechaun can be made from an oatmeal box, pringles tube, or paper towel tube.

3 Leaf or 4 Leaf Tissue Paper Clover:
This clover is a great way to reuse all of the green tissue paper you have left over from Christmas! For instructions and a list of supplies, click here.

Cup Style Leprechaun Hat:
This holiday hat can be made from a toilet paper roll or cup such as a large yogurt container. Cut out the bottom of your cup, cover the outside with yarn until it is covered, use felt or a plate for the brim of your hat, and then fill it or leave it as is. 

Egg Carton Clover:
Empty egg cartons make for all kinds of eco-friendly arts and crafts activities. For St. Patrick's Day, cut and paste different pieces together, paint them green, and add a popsicle stick for your stem!

Eco-Friendly Activities To Keep Your Kids Busy During Winter Break

It's winter break and while the kids are bouncing off the wall with excitement, parents can feel a little overwhelmed and desperate for activities to keep them busy. The following activities are fun ways to keep your children occupied while strengthening family bonds. Furthermore, these engaging crafts have eco-friendly benefits. Check out the following:

• Create a board game and pieces using old cereal boxes or shoe boxes. Use cereal bites as the pieces and eat them when you're finished!
• Create puzzles using old boxes. Draw on the blank side of the box, then cut out the pieces.
• Gather old holiday decorations that would otherwise be going in the trash and let your kids decorate their rooms.  This allows them to channel their inner creativity and is a great way to use that old wrapping paper, lights, or tissue paper!
• Start a band! Fill old soda bottles with rocks and pebbles, turn pizza boxes into banjos and tin cans into drums. It will keep the kids busy and even give you parents a nice break. Ask them to put on a show for you while you enjoy some down time on the couch.
