With winter temperatures swooping in, many homes have started to rely on their energy dependent products to help them keep warm. Just like during the summer, energy consumption is at a high during the winter season since large home appliances (such as your heater) are constantly being used. But what if there was a way to keep your home comfortable without using such an extreme amount of energy? The good news is, there is! The following are a few energy conservation tips that you can use to limit your home's energy use and even save some money too!
  1. Open the blinds and curtains on your south facing windows during the day so that sunlight can penetrate through your window's glass and heat your home.
  2. Cover drafty windows with a clear plastic sheet to keep outside air from slipping in.
  3. Adjust your thermostat to read lower temperatures when you are out of the house for an extended period of time.
  4. Reseal any cracks or openings around your windows and doors where weatherstripping or caulking may have come loose.
  5. Clean or replace your furnace's filter every month.
By following through with these simple, eco-friendly actions this winter, both your home and your wallet will thank you since your heating system will not have to work as hard to keep you warm.
