Recycling Facts!

Maspeth, NY 718-416-1656

Here are some Recycling Facts from DoSomething.org  you probably didn't know!

The average person generates over 4 pounds of trash every day! That = 1.5 tons of solid waste per year!
In 2009, Americans alone produced enough trash to circle the Earth 24 times!

Over 75% of waste is recyclable. Unfortunately, we only actually recycle about 30% of it.
Americans throw away 25 million plastic bottles every hour!

If every American just recycled 1/10 of their newspapers, we could save 25 million trees a year!

Now that you've seen these outrageous facts, Boro-Wide Recycling hopes you think twice about throwing that bottle in the garbage. A little recycling from everyone can go a long way!

Let us know what you recycled today, on our Facebook page! Remember to follow us @borowide on Twitter as well!

London Power Station to Be Fueled By Cooking Oil & Grease!

Maspeth, NY 718-416-1656

It’s true! Thames Water, Great Britain’s biggest water company has teamed up with 20C, a utility company to run the largest fat-fueled power station in the world!

Used cooking oil and grease from London homes, restaurants and food manufacturers will be collected and used to power the facility which will produce an estimated 130 Gigawatt hours a year of electricity. That’s enough to power nearly 40 thousand, average sized homes!

The use of the oil and grease is expected to ease sewer blockages, which occur when fat, grease and oil are poured down sink drains.
