When it comes to the 3 R's, the push for reusing plastic bottles is pretty popular. In fact, it's so popular that even brand names like Coca-Cola are beginning to hop on board and incorporate recycling plastic bottles into their campaigns. According to AdWeek, Coca-Cola's latest campaign takes their product to a new level by inventing 16 bottle caps that can turn empty bottles into newly functioning objects. Thanks to the new "2nd Lives" kit from the brand, your coke bottle can be easily transformed after you take your last sip.

With help from Ogilvy and Mather China, the campaign features 16 different, innovative caps that can be screwed on to any coke bottle once they're empty. What was once a cool, refreshing drink can become a water gun, whistle, paint brush, bubble maker and more within seconds! To begin the push for recycling, coke plans to give away 40,000 of these caps to consumers.

As stated in the AdWeek article, the initial purpose of this creative campaign is to encourage consumers in Vietnam to recycle. By providing consumers with these new caps, the campaign hopes to bring others on board with their recycling efforts by giving them a way to reuse plastic bottles that would otherwise end up in the trash. And the good news is, it's easy! Since the cap is provided, all consumers have to do is twist it on and then experience the joy of a new product.

Coke Encouraged to Use Recycled Plastic

In an article posted in the nature section of CNN, the Coca-Cola Company is being criticized on how the company is not living up to its promise, made in 1990, to use recycled plastic in soda bottles. According to Bill Sheenan, the result of the Coca-Cola Company not living up to its promise is that “billions of plastic bottles which could be used to make new bottles go to landfills or incinerators every year.” The company decided not to use recycled plastic in the United States because local market conditions were cost prohibitive.

New Celebrity Partnership Creates Brand with Products Made From Recycled Waste!

Will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas and Coca-Cola are partnering to make products from recycled waste. One of their items will be a pair of headphones or  “beats” that will run at about $349 per pair!

You may be thinking that $349 is quite a high price for a pair of headphones. However, products made out of recycled waste tend to be on the more expensive side because of the process required to incorporate these materials into what is being created. 

Will.i.am and Cola-Cola are hoping that consumers but price aside on this new hot item and hope that brands like “Beats” can help overcome the price!

The line of products (which include clothing and gear) from Will.i.am and partner Coca-Cola are called Ekocycle. Coca-Cola has reported that a portion of their profits will be donated to recycling and community improvement groups!
