There's no time like the present to make a change for the better. It doesn't take much to recycle, just a little knowledge on the subject. Do you know which items can be recycled or what to do with leftover egg shells? We've gather some great tips to help you on your eco-friendly journey. Check out the following recycling tips:

1. Plastic bottle caps can be recycled with the bottle. Many community recycling programs accept bottle caps. Check with your local solid waste office to be sure.
2. Half is better than none. You may not be able tor recycle the whole pizza box, but if the top half is grease-free, rip it off and recycle it!
3. Every community has different rules for recycling. Do some research. Don't just assume an item is not recyclable. Your community may have different rules.
4. Recyclable sleeves. Many communities do not recycle plastic cups due to the wax lining, but the cardboard sleeves are a different story!
5. Save trees! Recycle your daily newspaper, magazines, and mail!
6. Plastic bags of all kinds. Why stop with your grocery bags? Recycle your dry cleaning, newspaper, and bread bags! It is likely your local grocery store accepts these materials for recycling.
7. Reduce unwanted mail by unsubscribing to the catalogs you no longer want.
8. Be mindful of what you put in the recycling bin. The last thing you want to do is contaminate the recycling process. Contact your local recycling office for a list of acceptable materials.
9. Keep garbage bags handy. Stocking your car with a bag for garbage and a bag for recycling helps assure you're always ready.
10. Recycle cans. Metal is accepted by almost all recyclers.
11. Donate your outdated cell phone to a local charity or a drop off facility near you.
12. Composting is a hard pill to swallow. If you're not yet ready for it, try diverting waste in other ways. Toss your egg shells and coffee grounds into the garden. Both items will help to enrich your soil.
13. Keep recycled content products in demand by purchasing items that have been recycled.
14. You don't need to rinse out your glass bottles or jars before recycling.
15. Don't forget the items that aren't in the kitchen! Recycle old shampoo bottles and toilet paper rolls.

Did you know that curbside recycling for cartons in the last three years has increased by 128%? It’s true! While not yet available in every part of the country, cartons can be recycled into everything from tissues to building materials.

Remember to use some good recycling etiquette when recycling cartons. Take off those plastic caps and straws!

Both refrigerated cartons and cartons stored in the cabinet can be recycled, even though they may be made of some different materials.

Dunkin' Donuts Updates Customers on How New NYC Regulations Change Their Menu!

A few months ago, Mayor Michael Bloomberg proposed a ban on the selling of large sugary drinks in NYC, which will go into effect in a few days.

However, the ban may be affecting your morning Dunkin’ Donuts coffee. The popular coffee company has begun posting signs around their NYC locations advising customers of what will be changing at their NYC Dunkin’ chains.

The company has announced from here on out:

You will have to add your own sugar to large & extra-large hot beverages and medium & large iced beverages.  

You will have to add your own flavor swirl to large & extra-large hot beverages and medium & large iced beverages.

There will also be a beverage size change on hot chocolate and dunkaccinos. They will only be available in small and medium size cups only. Frozen beverages will now only be available in RESIZED small & medium only.

A Look at the Barclays Center!

Barclays Center – the Brooklyn sports/entertainment complex, opened with an impressive pomp and show to celebrate the occasion. Bruce Ratner along with Mayor Bloomberg, Brooklyn Nets owner – Mikhail Prokhorov among others joined in for the fun and festivities.

Described by some locals as something monstrous out of a “Transformer” movie, the Barclay’s Center is an impressive steel structure with a 360 degree LED marquee screen.  It has an 18 K capacity and is touted as a mecca of culture where “troubles can be left behind” for a few hours of the day. The Barclays Center and the entertainment that it will offer will be readily accessible by the subway system.

Despite some concerns, Brooklyn residents are warming up to the idea of having Barclays Center in their midst. They are already seeing some positive changes with about 1500 jobs being created. Mayor Bloomberg and Brooklyn Borough President also presented the Barclays Center as a matter of pride that will bring boom time back to Brooklyn!

12th Annual Lupus LA Orange Ball A Success

A star-studded crowd was on hand for the 12^th Annual Lupus LA Orange Ball and it helped raise over $550,000 for research and support for patients living with the incurable autoimmune disease.

The evening’s entertainer was Natasha Bedingfield, whose friend has lupus, and introducing the nonprofit founder was Paula Abdul, who had lupus but is now in remission. Abdul said she feels great and has never been healthier. She also mentioned that she’s a big fan of organics, but it’s hard to adhere to (http://goo.gl/xvj7J).

Earth, Wind & Fire bassist Verdine White doesn’t have lupus, but attended because his doctor, Soram Khalsa, was an honoree, recognized for his efforts in treating patients with eastern and western medicine. EWF begins a US tour June 7^th in Chicago and will release a double album in September called Now, Then and Forever. White stays green by recycling and conserving water. “Don’t use so much water when you brush your teeth and recycle your trash,” he advised.

Red Tails actor Kevin Phillips was also in attendance to support a friend whose mother succumbed to lupus. “I’m always recycling, not leaving the water running, and having my bills emailed to me. Anything I can do to contribute,” he said.
